A man has been charged after an attack at Rockley Park at the weekend.

Police were called to Rockley Park in Hamworthy just after 1am on Sunday following reports a 64-year-old man from Poole had sustained a serious head injury.

Park security gave the man first aid before paramedics arrived at the scene.

The man was taken to Southampton General Hospital and is described as being in a life-threatening condition.

A 34-year-old man from Poole has been charged with committing grievous bodily harm with intent and is due to appear at Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court this morning.

A 57-year-old woman from Poole was arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm with intent and has been released on police bail until the middle of July pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Andy Haworth, of Bournemouth CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was staying in the park this weekend and witnessed or heard a disturbance in the Harbour View area to please call me.”

A Rockley Park spokesman made a statement following the assault.

He said: “Following an incident in the early hours of Sunday morning, park security were called to provide first aid to a male guest prior to emergency services arriving at the park. The guest was later transferred to hospital.

“We are helping police with their investigation on the matter and will make no further comment whilst this is ongoing.”

Anyone with information about the incident can call Dorset Police on 101, quoting the number 8:29.

The attack follows an incident which happened at the park in October last year.

Stephen Baxter, from Poole, was jailed after threatening a member of staff with a machete in a case of mistaken identity.

He stormed to the park with the 85 centimetre blade after an allegation was made to him about an assault by employees.

The “terrified” staff member who turned to run suffered wounds to his back as Baxter struck him with the blunt edge of the machete.

However, the man hurt in the attack had no knowledge of the incident that had been reported to Baxter.

Baxter admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray and having an offensive weapon in a public place at Bournemouth Crown Court. He had pleaded not guilty to attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent.
