A £14.5million scheme to build the biggest Audi site in the UK will result in the partial closure of a busy road for around eight weeks to improve the road.

The disruption will affect Old Wareham Road which connects Ringwood Road with Dorset Way, over the festive period, as one lane is closed.

The £200,000 roadworks scheme and work to be carried out by Southern Gas Network will mean closure between Friday November 20 and Monday January 11.

The road will be closed westbound from Monday November 23 until Monday January 11 and there will be a diversion in place along Ringwood Road, Canford Way and Dorset Way.

From 7pm on Friday November 20 until 7am on Saturday 21 a diversion will be in place as the road is closed approximately 580m from the Yarrow Road junction to the junction of the Wessex Trading Estate while the gas company connects a mains supply to the new premises.

A spokesperson for Borough of Poole, said: “We are taking the opportunity to improve the road layout and install new street lighting on Old Wareham Road to provide a safe access for the business park. This will involve widening the road to create a new third lane for vehicles turning right into the business park.

“We recognise that this work will cause some disruption to road users and would like to thank everyone for their patience during this period."

Access to Wessex Trade Centre and Chalwyn Industrial Estate will be unaffected by the works.

A four-acre brownfield site on Old Wareham Road now under construction is allowing Poole Audi to expand, creating 200 jobs, with the 14-month scheme due to open in summer 2016.

Managing director, David Kelly, told the Echo earlier this year that the 60,000sqft of building area over two floors is three times the size of the current Ringwood Road showroom, workshop and offices.

“The whole process took three years to complete as it was imperative that we found a site of a suitable size, and of course a sensible shape, that was located close to the current Audi Centre," he said.
