THOUSANDS of people made the most of a break in the bad weather on Sunday to ensure the last day of the Party In the Park in Poole went with a swing.

The annual two-day event held on Ashley Cross Green in Lower Parkstone, kicked off on Saturday with live entertainment from Drew Allen, Bump and Hustle and Ekko Band.

But Sunday was bigger and better than ever, as double the numbers turned out for headline act, the star of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and American hip and hop and R&B DJ, Jazzy Jeff.

Jane Jones, who has been organising the Party in the Park for the past 15 years, told the Echo: "If Sunday was going to be my swan song, then I couldn't have asked for it to have gone any better.

"It was absolutely fantastic. Jazzy Jeff really got the crowds going - everyone was dancing - you could almost feel the ground shaking under your feet. The atmosphere was superb.

"I think the fact that the weather cleared up made a big difference, so we had double the numbers on Sunday. Almost as soon as the show finished at 7pm it started to rain so the crowds dispersed very quickly."

The popular mini festival faced the axe earlier this year following complaints from two residents and the council's environmental and consumer protection service over noise, anti-social behaviour and litter.

But Jane said it had all gone smoothly: "We didn't have any trouble at all and a member of Poole council who was at the event told me that it the most organised he had ever seen it."

As well as live music there was a range of food stalls selling everything from burgers and chips to lobster and steak as well as kids' entertainment and a food and beer tent.

She added: "It just gives me so much pleasure to see everyone from children right up to elderly people having so much fun. It has become such a fantastic family event."
