THE emergency service came together to show what they do everyday to the public.

The Emergency Services Family Fun Day at Poole Park saw thousands turn up to see demonstrations and exhibits.

From Police dogs to vintage fire engines, ambulances to a Coastguard water rescue, there was something to attract the attention of everyone.

Organisers said that almost 5,000 people attended the free event.

The event saw the county’s emergency services come together to raise funds for Safewise, a charity which runs two safety centres - the LV=Streetwise safety centre in Bournemouth and the Weymouth Community Safety Centre.

Demonstrations included as police dog display, animal rescue, CPR, water rescue, a chip pan fire and how the emergency services deal with a car crash.

Children could climb aboard fire engines, take a look inside vehicles from the Ambulance Service and have their photo taken on the Dorset Police black marine boat and in the police tractor.

Visitors also got the chance to have a go on the casualty reduction driving simulator, participate in health checks and learn about first aid techniques.

Event organiser Nick Sykes, from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, said: “This partnership event was a great way for visitors to learn more about the emergency services and meet some of the people who work hard to keep them safe.

“The event has enabled us to demonstrate the collaborative working of all the emergency services, pass on essential community safety messaging and raise the awareness of some of the lesser known emergency services, as well as giving everyone a great day out with lots to see and do.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came along to Poole Park and helped make the event such a huge success. It’s proven to be so popular that we are looking into running it again in summer 2016.”

The day had interactive stands and giveaways from Dorset Fire and Rescue, South Western Ambulance Service, Dorset Police, Dorset Road Safe, Streetwise, Safewise, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, RNLI, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, British Red Cross and many community organisations.

This year’s event was sponsored by Bournemouth-based companies Easigrass and Gate Expectations.
