THE cream of the folk scene will be live on Poole Quay as the line-up is revealed for the two-day musical extravaganza.

Folk on the Quay, a free family folk festival on June 27-28 is supported by Volvo Cars Poole and is part of the Wave 105 Summertime in the South events programme.

It boasts an outstanding line-up of more than 25 acts across five stages, with fringe events at many local pubs and restaurants. Across the two days a colourful festival of morris dancing will see performances throughout each day.

Confirmed music acts during the weekend include:

Saturday's headliners Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson from Australia, five-piece folk-pop-indie Bonsai Pirates and BBC Young Folk Awards finalists, Jaywalkers has created one of the most exciting bands on the folk music scene.

There will be Balkan inspired fun from the six-piece The Model Folk, and Sunday’s award winning headline act, The Roving Crows have been marked as "ones to watch" on the UK Folk scene.

Mixing Folk, Blues and Country are Fred’s House, Fearne draw inspiration from Americana, Soul and Blues and Threepenny Bit take to the stage with some of the finest young jazz and classical musicians in the south for a ceilidh on the Quay.

Developed by Poole Tourism, working with folk event music organisers Paul and Catherine Burke, the event includes a main outdoor stage at The Thistle Hotel plus the Thistle Garden Stage, the Fish Shambles (opposite the Lord Nelson), the Poole Arms and the Custom House.

“Poole offers such a great location for events and it’s wonderful to see artists with national and international reputations alongside our amazing home grown talent," said Bruce Grant-Braham, chairman of Poole Tourism Partnership.

Local bands include Djambo, Purbeck based Instant Karma, Wikkaman and eight-piece skiffle band Quinns Quinney, plus more than 25 dance groups and the chance to Ceilidh on the Quay.

On the Saturday the morris dancing starts at 11am. There’s live music performances from 12.30pm until 9pm on the outdoor stages, with many acts continuing indoors on into the evening at pubs and bars along the Quay. On Sunday 28 June, morris dancing starts from 11am with live music performances from 12.30pm with the final live act of the evening, Quinns Quinney playing on the Custom House stage 7.15-9pm.

Programmes cost £2 and will be on sale at Poole Welcome Centre with proceeds supporting the event.
