A FUEL station in Poole was cordoned off after a cash machine attack in the early hours of this morning.

It is thought that the front door to the cash machine was blown off with gas. The door could be seen lying on the forecourt about 20ft away from the machine.

Bournemouth Echo:

The cash machine is a stand-alone LINK machine outside the Highland Service Station, on Ashley Road, Poole.

Crime scene investigators were on the scene but have now left. The garage reopened around 12.40pm.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a call at 3.20am this morning to reports of a cash machine attack at the Highland Service Station on Ashley Road, Poole.

“Police have cordoned off the area whilst they carry out their enquiries.”

Jeanette Golding, who lives in nearby Highland Road, said: “My husband heard a really loud bang at 3.20am and we wondered what on earth was going on.

“Our dog jumped up on the bed because he was scared, like he does on fireworks night.”

She said that the proximity of the cash machine to the road meant it was lucky that there wasn’t someone passing who could have been injured.

“I’m just glad that nobody was hurt,” she added.
