A SHOW telling the story of nearly 100 years of the Jellicoe Theatre in Poole will be performed next week.

The Jellicoe Project will go on show from Monday, May 18 to Wednesday, May 20 at 7.30pm at Bournemouth and Poole College's Lower Constitution Hill site for current and former students and local residents interested in the venue's history.

Rupert Barrington, theatre manager, said: "The writer set out to produce a show which documents some of the history of the Jellicoe Theatre, from 1919 when Russell-Cotes donated 30-acres of land to Barnados, right up to how it is used today."

He said that the show had been in planning for the past year and students had been in rehearsals for the past three weeks.

The multi-disciplined show is the work of 12 technical students, four technical staff, one writer and director and 32 performance students.

It has been created after Borough of Poole purchased the site of the theatre in a deal worth £1.9million to the college.

Theatre students will soon be able to take advantage of a new contemporary 136-seat performing arts theatre, where they will host around 22 productions each year.

Tickets are limited to 50 people each day and cost is £10 per adult, £8 per concessions and £5 for ex-Jellicoe Theatre students. Booking is essential and the show will involve some walking for audience members.

For more information on booking tickets and the theatre's closing event, being held on Sunday, July 5, call the Jellicoe Theatre box office on 01202 205720.
