A LITTLE five-year-old from Poole had his hair cut for the first time on Saturday to raise money for cystic fibrosis.

Peter Hulm, five, went to Beautifully Gorgeous salon on Ashley Road for the chop to his mop of golden curls in order to collect funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, which supports his sibling, Darien, six.

His proud mum, Dee, said that apart from the occasional home trim, Peter had never had his hair cut. - but had now decided to donate his hair to help the Little Princess Trust, to be made into a wig for a child.

She said: "Peter is the most amazing little brother, he helps Darien deal with his condition. He keeps him company when he is on a nebuliser and reminds him to eat all his chocolate.

"He decided that he now wants a boy haircut and that a poorly girl can have his hair."

Dee said that Darien's diagnosis came as a complete shock as nobody else in the family has the condition.

"He had grown the bug pseudomonas six times in his first nine months and has had three surgeries to put in lines. He is very good. He takes all his medication and does all his physiotherapy without a fuss.

"It is upsetting when he is coughing through the night and you know that you are going to have to make him work harder, doing more physiotherapy to get rid of it.

"Darien is brilliant, he just gets on with it. But occasionally he will say to me ‘I hate it because I can’t eat what I want’ as he has to have medicine with every meal.

"As difficult as it is, things like this humble you. I never take health for granted anymore. “

Serena Wilson, community development fundraising manager at the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said that Peter is 'showing tremendous talent as a fundraiser' as such a young age.

She added: "How wonderful that Peter is thinking of others and doing what he can to do some good. This is a truly an impressive young man.

"The money Peter raises will enable the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to invest in cutting-edge research to develop better treatments. It will also provide support to those with cystic fibrosis and their families and help the Trust to drive up standards in medical care."
