THE first Poole Harbour Boat Show was officially opened this afternoon against a background of sailing vessels of all shapes and sizes at Poole Quay.

Organised by the team from Poole Quay Boat Haven and Poole Harbour Commissioners, there is a host of products and displays from different marine organisations for families and maritime enthusiasts to learn more about.

As well as boats and ships to view close-up, visitors can enjoy a host of on-the-water activities, as well as live music, fireworks, face painting and children's rides to keep people entertained.

Richard Lacey, chairman of Poole Harbour Commissioners, was on hand to cut the ribbon and officially launch the event today.

He said: "A lot of people have worked extremely hard to pull this event together for the town and we thank them all for their efforts.

"We are starting something this year which will ultimately put Poole very firmly on the maritime event map and we are committed to making it accessible to everyone.

"That can only be done with the dedication of our people and they have come up trumps."

Brands featuring at the free entry event include Sunseeker, Fairline, Windy, Bayliner and Legend Yachts, as well as the charity, RNLI.

London 2012 Paralympic gold medallist, Helena Lucas MBE, is set to attend the event tomorrow at around 11am during the second day of the two-day show.
