Dorset’s first ever Rainbow Run takes place on Sunday.

The colourful event, which is organised by Naomi House and Jacksplace children’s hospices near Winchester, will see runners take part in the 3km run at Baiter Park, during which they will be pelted with bucket loads of multi-coloured powered paint.

Money raised will go towards the charity’s Caterpillar Appeal, to fully refurbish the Sutton Scotney hospice building.

Organisers are hoping the run will raise more than £30,000 towards the building work which is due to be completed later this year.

Here’s everything you need to know about the event if you're taking part or fancy joining in.

1. How many people are taking part?

More than 1,500 people have signed up

2. Can I still sign-up?

Yes. Even if you missed the online registration (it was midnight on Wednesday) you can still turn up on the day and get involved. The Rainbow Run is open to anyone over the age of 8.

3. What time does it take place?

The first wave begins at 11am but participants should turn up from 9.30am.

4. How far is it?

The race is 3km

5. How much does it cost to register on the day?

Entry will be £15 for children aged 8 to 15-years-old on the day and £20 for adults (16 and over)

6. What should I wear?

Everyone who registers will receive a white Naomi House Rainbow Run T-shirt. Don’t wear anything you don’t want to get covered in paint! (that includes your shoes) Runners are also invited to wear fancy dress.

7. What is the paint made from?

The powder paint is non-toxic, 100% safe and biodegradable. It is 100% natural and water soluble and will not cause any damage to the environment. It is technically edible, although organisers advise you don’t eat it! If you have a skin allergy or respiratory condition, it is recommended that you don’t take part or that you consult your doctor for advice.

8. Who is throwing the paint?

The paint will only be thrown at one of the four paint stations by trained Rainbow Throwers. The paint will be aimed onto the body of the runners rather than the face to reduce the amount of paint getting into the mouth, nose and eyes.

9. What do I need to take on the day?

If you registered in advance, you’ll need to take your Naomi House T-shirt and running number. If you are registering on the day, you’ll need to go to the Pack Collection point. If you have a medical condition, you’ll need to write it on the back of your number. You will need to attach your number to your front with safety pins ready for the start of the race.

10. Can I go and watch?

Yes, spectators are welcome although they are advised to stay a good distance from the Rainbow Stations.
