A LIVELY fun day on Saturday will signal the end of six weeks consultation on improvements to Poole town and Hamworthy.

The Big Lottery-funded Poole Quays Forum consultation comes to an end with a day of free entertainment in the town centre, including a climbing wall, street entertainment and circus skills and the chance to make and plant up flower pots.

There will be an exhibition of the neighbourhood plan in the temporary shop at Orchard Plaza in the High Street from 11am to 3pm, questionnaires, free prizes for the first 50 people through the door sponsored by Lush, and prizes for those completing the Poole Quays trail.

“We have had some really positive feedback over the past weeks and it is inspiring to meet so many people who passionately believe that the area deserves upgrading,” said Martha Covell from ECA Community Interest Company who devised and ran the consultation programme.

“People particularly want to see better quality streets and spaces,” she said.

Comments from more people are being sought and they are hoping to get more than 100 people through the door on Saturday.

The event will focus on how the centre of Hamworthy can be improved and also how Poole Quays Forum can work with Borough of Poole to improve open spaces, particularly Hamworthy recreation ground and waterside.

“We had an excellent workshop last week with community representatives from Hamworthy who want to see more shops, community facilities and a medical centre, brought forward by a clear master plan for the area,” said Ann Smeaton, a member of the steering group and of Hamside Residents Association.

“Martha and I are in the process of applying for a government grant which will enable us to take forward some of the communities ambitions for the area.”
