ONE of Poole’s busiest routes is in line for days of extra congestion with temporary lights in operation – a stone’s throw from two sets of permanent traffic lights.
Southern Gas Neworks is doing emergency repairs to a gas main on Commercial Road, at the junction with Glenair Avenue, after a leak was discovered over the weekend.
The site is close to busy Ashley Cross, which has two sets of traffic light controlled junctions in quick succession – spelling triple traffic light trouble for drivers caught up in the jams.
A spokesman for SGN said the works could take three or four days, depending on the nature of the repairs required.
She added: “The two way temporary traffic lights will be manually operated during peak times. We appreciate this is potentially a busy location due to the existing traffic lights nearby. We will do our best to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible and would like to apologise to motorists and members of the public for any disruption caused.”
Another set of temporary traffic lights is also in place on Station Road at Ashley Cross for planned pedestrian crossing works by Borough of Poole.
