ANGRY residents have been contacting their councillors over the cost to taxpayers of eco campers trespassing on land at Canford Magna.

In the region of £10,000 of council taxpayers’ money has been spent so far and Borough of Poole officers have now been granted a warrant of restitution by the county court allowing bailiffs to decide how to proceed.

“People are very angry,” said resident Lois Taylor, who chairs Bearwood Community in Action.

“It’s awful that they have come back, defying the eviction order.”

Just two weeks after a group who had set up camp on council-owned land at Magna Road were evicted by court bailiffs after a five-hour stand-off, a tented encampment is back on the same site.

“Residents are getting increasingly angry at the costs and the waste of time for the council,” said Cllr David Brown, who represents Merley and Bearwood. “This falls on local council taxpayers.”

He added: “I understand there are discussions about what further actions can be taken against the individuals involved because of the ever-increasing costs of dealing with them.”

However Mrs Taylor said: “There would be no chance of getting costs from them. They don’t have any money.”

The former Moortown Airfield land is jointly owned by Poole and Bournemouth councils and talks are also being held between them on its future.

The green belt land had been earmarked for a cemetery but this was ruled out last year.

Elisabeth Nolson, who is helping the newly-formed Dorset Community Trust, whose stated aim is to grow free organic food and create free energy for the community, said: “I am prepared to go to prison for this – I really am.”
