A STRING quartet, which boasts members who have worked with acts such as Jamiroquai, Girls Aloud and One Direction, will be performing at a charity event in March.

The Alani String Quartet will play a concert at Lewis-Manning Hospice’s Ladies Afternoon Tea event at the Harbour Heights Hotel in Sandbanks on March 6, which is to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Hailing from Bournemouth, members of the professional string quartet have played with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Auckland Chamber Orchestra in New Zealand.

Sally Goodenough, who is the corporate fundraiser at the hospice, said: “We are delighted that the Alani String Quartet has offered to perform at the event.

“It promises to be a lovely occasion and they will certainly complement the afternoon beautifully.”

Lewis-Manning, which provides free care and support to local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, will be using the Women’s Afternoon Tea to unveil details of its third annual Celebrating Women Lunch, which will be taking place on October 2 as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Rachel Lapworth, director of development at Lewis-Manning, said: “I never cease to be amazed by the power of women in our community, and this is a chance to celebrate their achievements and encourage other women to be the best they can be, no matter what their circumstances.”

Tickets for the event are £25 and can be bought from the fundraising team on 01202 701000.

The price includes a traditional afternoon tea, live entertainment, a raffle and auction.
