A MAN has been arrested after a woman suffered life-threatening injuries following a collision with a car in Poole last night.

The incident happened at 10.15pm on Wimborne Road between Fleetsbridge Roundabout and the junction with Stanley Green Road.

A Peugeot 206 was in collision with the female pedestrian at the junction of Bailey Crescent.

Police had to close the road between the roundabout and Stanley Green Road while crime scene investigators established what had happened.

The road was closed for several hours.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "The female sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated at Southampton General Hospital.

"Her next of kin have been informed and are currently with her."

Police Sergeant Nikki Burt, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, added: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the pedestrian or vehicle prior to the incident to please call me.

“All calls will be treated in strict confidence.”

A 25-year-old man from Poole has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
