AN ELDERLY pedestrian killed in a crash in Branksome has been named as Paul Ambrose Carr.

The 89-year-old died after he was involved in a collision with a black Chrysler outside the Railway Hotel on Poole Road on Friday, February 6.

The pensioner, who lived in nearby Wilderton Road, suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Floral tributes were laid by the side of the road following his death.

One message said: “We will miss that happy face of yours.

“You were such a lovely gentleman. You will be forever missed and in our hearts. RIP.”

A spokesman from the Coroner’s Office said an inquest into Mr Carr’s death is expected to be opened next week.

A spokesman from Dorset Police said a 27-year-old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the collision.

He has been released on bail until the beginning of April pending further enquiries.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the crash, which happened at around 6.30am.

Sergeant Rhiannon Stroud, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the manner of driving of the black Chrysler or a male pedestrian carrying a white bag immediately prior to the collision to call Dorset Police.

“I know a number of cars were travelling behind the Chrysler at the time and left the scene before police arrived. I am particularly keen to speak to these drivers as I believe they may be able to assist the investigation.”

These vehicles were a Sainsbury’s articulated lorry, a small blue van with ladders on the roof and a silver Peugeot estate car.
