A LOLLIPOP lady who was subjected to foul-mouthed abuse from drivers caught up in traffic around Upton has been showered with gifts and cards from the schoolchildren she keeps safe.

Caroline Bugler, who mans the school crossing on Moorland Way, was sworn at and insulted by drivers held up congestion caused by gas replacement works on Blandford Road which started on Monday, January 19.

After hearing what had happened to their well-loved lollipop lady, children at Upton Infant School made cards and the school, along with many parents, bought her flowers in a show of appreciation and support.

Head teacher Nigel Helm said: “She does a great job in all weathers. She is part of the school community – she’s the person the children see at the start and end of each day. When the children saw she was getting upset by what some of the drivers were saying they wanted to cheer her up.

“Hopefully the drivers using the local roads as a cut through will follow the example set by our pupils in really valuing the work that Caroline does in keeping everyone safe.”
