TWO days to raise £30,000 for local charities, that’s the target of this year’s Poole Lions Swimarathon.

And the appeal has been launched for teams to sign up for the annual sponsored event.

The 37th fun swim relay takes place at the Dolphin Swimming Pool in Kingland Road over the weekend of March 7 and 8.

Poole Lions are urging teams of six swimmers and a non-swimming captain to take the plunge, joining those who have already pledged their support.

Graham Starr, inset, welfare chairman said: “The Lions of Poole are roaring in excitement for their 37th fun-swim relay and swimarathon. All funds raised by teams entering are donated to local Poole charities. The Lions are encouraging Poole residents, colleges, schools, clubs, businesses and organisations to take part in the event.”

He added: “Fun times, record breaking and exciting relay swims – let’s go Poole.”

The aim is to raise thousands of pounds to help local people in need, with the swimmers supporting five local charities this year.

Sponsorship money will be split between Lewis Manning Hospice, Young Dorset which provides learning and development for young people, Chestnut Nursery which provides sheltered work opportunities, the Purple Teardrop Campaign refuge for trafficked women and Montacute School which needs specialised equipment.

Any remaining funds will be used by Poole Lions and their sister organisations to help other local individuals or organisations.

Last year 75 teams of six took part, ranging in age from young children to grandparents, completing as many lengths as possible in 55 minutes.
