‘SUPER-SIZED’ beach huts will be among the range of new huts soon to be built on Poole’s beaches.

A total of 88 beach huts will be built at Branksome Chine (East and West) and Flaghead Chine to help reduce the waiting list and extend the choice of huts available.

The huts, which will cost £1.35m, will be built in the New Year, including ‘super-sized’ huts that are 33 per cent bigger than standard ones.

New access ramps will be built from the promenade to the new huts, along with a brand new disabled toilet.

Cllr Xena Dion, cabinet portfolio holder for open spaces and beaches at Borough of Poole, said: “It’s an exciting and long-awaited building project for Poole beaches as we can start to reduce the waiting lists for our very popular beach huts.

It’s a cost-effective way to invest in the beach, provide local people and visitors with what they have asked for and generate further money that is needed to improve the infrastructure and facilities along the seafront.”

Building work will begin on January 12, with the new beach huts set to be ready for tenants to enjoy in July 2015.

Branksome Chine East will benefit from 62 new beach huts, 12 of which will be super-sized. Branksome Chine West will have 16 beach huts, replacing the old shelter.

And Flaghead Chine will have 10 huts built on top of an existing block.

The new huts will have a pitched roof design, UPVC double doors with blue tinted double glazed units and fitted cupboards and worktops.

Poole based contr- actors Morgan Sindall have been appointed to build the huts, designed by Bournemouth architects Davison Mondon Associates.
