UNDER current plans Borough of Poole will have added a further 75 new beach huts to the seafront by the summer of 2015.

However, public demand remains strong, and there is a significant number of people on the waiting list, said a report that went before the council’s cabinet.

New applicants could wait 20 years for a hut at Sandbanks, while the shortest current wait is 12 years at Branksome Chine.

The council says there is the potential to build more beach huts to help meet some of the demand, with sites currently under consideration including Branksome Chine, Canford Cliffs and Hamworthy Park.

These sites could potentially provide up to 150 additional huts by adding to existing sites or developing new huts where no alternative uses were being considered.

Officers will bring forward proposals for consideration early in 2015 and it was agreed that cabinet portfolio holder Cllr Xena Dion would meet member of the Poole Beach Huts Association.
