HOT on the heels of last Sunday’s Christmas on the Quay comes Poole’s traditional lantern parade.

Tomorrow evening Poole town centre will be transformed into a beacon of light as local children parade down the High Street with lanterns and illuminated works of art.

Organised by Poole Town Centre Partnership, children from Poole schools have been working with Wave Arts Education over the last few months to create stunning lanterns illuminated by LED lights.

They will parade with their masterpieces and an illuminated centre piece in the procession, which is open to everyone.

Led by Poole Mayor, Cllr Peter Adams and the Town Crier, David Squire, the procession will leave Falkland Square at 6pm and travel down the High Street with stilt walkers and Poole Sea Cadets Marching Band to the Guildhall to join the Poole Old Town Conservation Group for carols and mince pies.

This is one of a number of festive treats to enjoy as part of Christmas is a Breeze, sponsored by Breeze Volkswagen.

There will be a Festive Market in Falkland Square from December 13 to 23, packed with stalls offering gifts, decorations and food and on December 18 the Coca-Cola truck will be at Seldown Bridge car park from noon to 8pm with a snowy winter wonderland setting and choir singing Christmas hits.

“From magical and creative community events packed with traditional Christmas atmosphere, to the spectacular Coca-Cola truck, there are lots of things to keep families entertained,” said John Corderoy, managing director of Breeze Volkswagen.

“It is such a special time and we are really proud to be involved in something that brings the festive spirit to Poole this Christmas,” he added.
