FAMILIES enjoyed a huge school Christmas fair yesterday thanks to the work of two women who resurrected a parents’ association less than three months ago.

Youngsters and their parents turned out in their droves to support the event, entitled A Night Before Christmas, at Hamworthy Park Junior School in Ashmore Crescent.

It featured a host of entertainment, including an ice rink, stalls, a hog roast, and Christmas-themed raffle.

The event was organised by Amy Mayor and Jodie England, who formed the Hamworthy Park Junior School PTFA back in September and got to work on organising the Christmas fair straight away.

Amy said: “The school didn’t really have a PTFA, so we decided to start our own.

“We thought we would organise the Christmas fair so that all of the proceeds could go back to the children and the things that the school needs, which we have a few ideas for to put to the school council.

“We would never have been able to do this without the help of our sponsors, including Healey HR, Natterjacks Vets, CAM Autocentre, the Carrington Hollywood Academy.

“We also had support from the Royal Marines, who wanted to help as we have a lot of military children here, and in total we had about £1,000 from all of the companies, which is great.”

Jodie said: “We wanted to do something to help the school, which would also be open to children from the Twin Sails Infant School next door, as well as including the community. ASDA on West Quay Road have also been fantastic, as they supplied the gifts for our Santa’s grotto, which really helped.”

James Lumber, deputy headteacher at the school, said: “I’m massively grateful to the PTFA and to the staff who have given up their time to help with the fair. We have had Christmas fairs before, but never on this level and so I hope this will continue for years to come, with the families from the school and Poole residents supporting it.”
