DETECTIVES probing an alleged hit-and-run attack in Poole have released details of a hire car believed to be involved.

Officers were called to the viewing point at Sea View Road, Parkstone, last Thursday morning (Nov 13) amid reports of someone being struck by a car then assaulted by a number of men.

The victim, a 33-year-old Poole man, was later treated in hospital for leg injuries.

Acting Detective Inspector Andy Roberts, of Bournemouth CID, has now released an image of the car believed to have been used in the alleged incident.

He said: “We are now looking to trace a silver VW Polo registration number GD14 ZXV. The car was hired from Europa in Liverpool in November.

“We believe this car may still be in the Poole or Dorset area and it is possible it may now have false number plates on it.

“I urge anyone who knows the whereabouts of this vehicle to get in contact with me.”

Police described the incident as “very serious” and scrambled the force helicopter in a bid to track the driver after the suspected attackers left the scene.

Mr Roberts confirmed: “As part of our investigations, I am now in a position to release details of the vehicle we believe to have been involved in this incident.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who has seen a silver VW Polo parked in suspicious circumstances in their community or a similar car which is not routinely parked in their road and may have damage to the front of the car.

“All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 13:102. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
