The Tesco garage at the centre of the contaminated fuel fiasco is to reopen on Monday, almost two months after it closed.

Tesco’s Branksome forecourt was boarded up after scores of people broke down having filled up with suspected dodgy diesel on September 18. The contaminated fuel is thought to have done thousands of pounds worth of damage to upwards to 100 vehicles.

Despite the ‘urgent investigation’ being undertaken by Tesco, the company has remained tight lipped out the cause of the contamination, or the progress of its “complex testing.”

A spokesman for the company said: “I can confirm that the station will reopen on Monday morning. That’s all I can add at this stage.”

The investigation is still ongoing.

At the time of the incident, the Echo was inundated with calls from angry motorists, many of whom complained that Tesco was slow to come through with help.

The supermarket giant did offer compensation to all affected in the incident.

Although the garage continued trading for a short time from the other fuel pumps, the forecourt was closed down as the complaints flooded in. Behind the blue hoardings all the pumps were all ripped out and heavy machinery brought in to dig down to the massive fuel containers below ground.

Trading Standards officers have been on site during the works to ensure that legislation is being complied with.

Tesco has refused to say how many people were affected, but said claims were being processed and many motorists had already received compensation.
