MID Dorset and North Poole MP Annette Brooke has shown her support for a campaign that has launched to help slash spiralling energy bills.

Mrs Brooke backed the Big Energy Saving Week during an event at the Houses of Parliament this week.

This joint campaign, between the Energy Saving Trust, the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Citizens Advice Bureau, aimed to give guidance on how to save money by checking, switching suppliers and insulating homes, said organisers.

“The government is making it far easier for people to switch suppliers,” said Mrs Brooke.

“And the main energy suppliers have committed to the halving of switching times by the end of the year.

“What is important now is informing people of these changes and equipping people with the knowledge to allow them to take advantage of them.”

The Big Energy Saving Week, running until today, offered free advice over the phone, online and at events across the UK.

Energy Saving Trust chief executive Philip Sellwood said: “Rightfully, millions of householders are confused by their heating controls because, let’s be honest, it is a bit of a minefield.”
