A LITTLE girl with a big heart is selling her toys to support the fight against Ebola.

Five-year-old Amelie Preston from Broadstone set her mind on raising funds for charity after hearing how the devastating virus has already claimed the lives of more than 4,000 people.

Her mother Rachel said: “We were in the car listening to the radio and the news came on. They were talking about Ebola and she just said ‘I’m going to sell my toys’.

“She’s very sensitive and latches on to this kind of thing.

“I felt bad because I listened to it, thought it was terrible but didn’t do anything. She listened to it and did something about it.”

The youngster set out to raise £156 for the charity Medecins Sans Frontieres UK, which provides emer-gency medical aid in West African nations affected by the disease.

To kick-start her fundraising campaign Amelie, who attends Broadstone First School, held a cake and toy sale at the weekend.

“She worked out that £156 will buy two Ebola suits,” Rachel explained.

“She held a toy and cake sale outside our house on Sunday and raised around £70 and she’s selling cakes at school. She’s also selling some of her toys on Ebay.

“When she first said she wanted to do it we knew we couldn’t stop her. She’s very head-strong.”

Amelie has already smashed her initial target and has raised more than £170 for the charity so far.

Rachel told the Echo: “We are very proud of her.

“She said she’s just going to keep going for as long as she can.”
