A POOLE man has been given a 12-week suspended jail sentence after crashing a car and abandoning the scene.

David Lynch, 36, was driving a Seat Leon in Rossmore Road on June 28 when it left the road and smashed through a garden wall, ending up on its roof.

Bournemouth Magistrates Court heard that he and a passenger then fled the area.

Lynch had pleaded guilty to charges of failing to stop, driving while disqualified and without insurance. His record included offences of aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and drink driving.

In mitigation it was pointed out that Lynch went to a police station shortly after the incident and handed himself in.

Magistrates jailed him for 12 weeks – suspended for 12 months with supervision – and extended his existing driving ban by six months to 30 in total.
