ALMOST 40 homes have been left without power this afternoon due to a power cut in Merley.

Properties along Brook Road are believed to be affected, with a total of 39 homes left without electricity, due to damage to a power cable caused by third party contractor workers.

Workmen from Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution are working to fix the issue and a spokesperson said that due to the extent of the damage, mobile generators are being sent out to temporarily restore the power for residents.

The spokesperson added: “We estimate that the cables should be fixed by 8pm, at the latest. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”

A spokesperson at Borough of Poole said that they were initially contacted by a member of the public at 12.10pm today with reports of problems with the traffic signals at the junction of Queen Anne Drive and Gravel Hill.

On arrival, engineers found that there was no power to the signals and Southern Electric were called to attend the site of the issue.
