SCHOOLCHILDREN are being invited to a new range of workshops at Poole Museum, developed to bring history lessons to life.

Set in a Victorian kitchen, an old fashioned toy room, a Roman house and onboard a pirate ship, these interactive workshops are set to make learning playful and exciting.

Created to reflect the new periods now covered on the history curriculum, they use interesting characters and role play to bring to life topics such as ancient times and local history, including Poole pirate hero Harry Paye.

During their visit children will be able to make use of the museum’s fantastic immersive environment, including the only reconstructed Roman salt dwellers home in the world and Scaplen’s Court, Poole’s finest medieval domestic building.

Cllr Xena Dion, portfolio holder for culture and community learning, Borough of Poole, said: “Poole Museum’s school workshops are a fantastic way to inject some life into history lessons and make learning fun.

“I’m certain the children who take part will remember their visit for many years to come.”

Richard Howard, teacher at St Mary’s Combined School in Poole said: “We are all very grateful for the superb service we received from the museum service, including the Local History Centre who were also extremely helpful, and we look forward to working with them again to make the most of the heritage these children have.”
