A TEENAGE boy has been stabbed in a “frightening and unprovoked” early hours attack in Poole.

A knife was held to the throat of the 16-year-old and he was stabbed in the shoulder in the shocking attack which happened around 1am on Friday as he walked with a friend near Fleetsbridge.

The Poole teen was walking on Upton Road towards Creekmoor at the junction with Pergin Crescent when a man on a pushbike, riding in the opposite direction, bumped into the kerb alongside them.

He shouted at the victim, got off his bike and kicked him.

The offender then produced a knife and held it against the teenager's neck, stabbing him in the collar bone/shoulder area when the boy tried to move away.

He then got on his bike and rode away toward the Tesco store at Fleetsbridge. The victim's injury was non-life-threatening but required hospital treatment.

Detective Sergeant Julie Dransfield, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said: “This was a frightening and un-provoked attack on a young lad. It was fortunate he was not more seriously injured.

“We only have a basic description at this stage and I am appealing for witnesses or anyone with more information to come forward urgently.”

The offender is described as a white man, possibly in his 40s, of average build wearing a black hooded top and black jogging bottoms.

He may have been wearing a black baseball cap under the hood of his jacket that was pulled up over his head. He was riding a dark coloured mountain bike.

No one has been arrested.

Resident Chris Jordan who lives near to the scene of the crime said: “Most people are retired around here. It's a quiet area - you don't really expect to hear about something like that.”

Andy Foy, 39, works at WDS on Upton Road and said the thought of someone cycling around with a knife was “crazy” adding: “It's quite a big shock. This is a peaceful area.”

Andrew Russell, 58, from Creekmoor said: “I'm shocked and very sad to hear that. I hope the boy makes a speedy recovery.”

Another resident who asked not to be named, said she was “astonished” adding: “You don't hear of anything like that around here - this is a decent neighbourhood.”

Creekmoor councillors Judy Butt, John Rampton and Leslie Burden said: "We are appalled to hear of the stabbing of a child in Creekmoor and we are liaising with the SNT (Safer Neighbourhood Team) and the local community to assist police with enquiries.

"This level of violence is not the norm in Creekmoor, as Creekmoor has a very low crime rate and this mindless violent attack on a child cannot  be tolerated."
