SOME residents of Canford Heath may not be able to use their gas for several more days, due to water damage, says Southern Gas Networks.

While engineers are working to restore supplies to the Poole estate following a water main burst, some residents’ gas meters and appliances suffered significant water damage.

The supplier said Wessex Water was working with them to ensure replacements and repairs were undertaken at affected homes around the Culliford Crescent area.

More than 400 customers of the 608 who lost their gas supply were reconnected by yesterday and last night a spokesperson for SGN said they are aiming to have less than 150 homes to reconnect by the end of yesterday evening.

“Due to the scale of some damage, some customers may not be able to use their gas for several more days,” said a spokesman.

"We have removed over 60,000 litres of water from our network so far, but there is still a considerable amount of water sitting in our pipes in this section of the network.

"We appreciate the support shown to us by Canford Heath residents as we've worked to restore supplies. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding."

The company is continuing to offer hot plates and electric heaters to those who need them.
