THE variety and scope of social enterprises will be shown off at a new pop-up shop in Poole High Street.

Over the next six months shoppers will see 58 High Street transformed into a variety of fascinating offers, in a partnership between Borough of Poole and The New Leaf Company, the social enterprise arm of BCHA.

The Factory, a new upcycling and vintage retail warehouse and social enterprise centre based in the old Remploy factory in Alder Hills, was the first tenant, with a biking paradise.

All bikes on display were donated by residents of Poole. Transformed from rusty, damaged or unloved vehicles into saleable items by The Wheelie Great Bike Factory and offered for a fraction of the cost of new machines.

As well as bikes and spares, TWGBF offers advice and instructions on maintaining and servicing bikes and campaigns on the benefits of pedal power within Poole and Bournemouth.

Funded by Borough of Poole, temporary social enterprise tenants at the shop will include The Cherry Tree Nursery, 50 Days of Clay, Supply Shack and Sign It. Profits from all sales are reinvested into community benefiting projects.

“This exciting project will not only benefit shoppers, social enterprise and local entrepreneurs but supports the council’s commitment to helping local people acquire the skills they need to enter into employment,” said Cllr Elaine Atkinson, council leader.

Hannah Allen, head of commercial and social enterprise at The New Leaf Company, said: “Number 58 represents a fantastic opportunity for the social enterprise community to engage directly with the general public.

“I’d like to invite any like-minded organisation to contact me to see how they too can take advantage of this unique opportunity to showcase their organisation.”

The shop is open Monday to Saturday, 11am to 6pm, for the next six months.
