A disgruntled Poole resident who discovered the bin men missed his collection was baffled to be told to take his waste to a recycling centre himself.

Pete Brown contacted the council after part of Charles Road and part of Kingston Road in Poole missed their blue bin collections.

He said he was told the policy on collections had changed and his bin would not be emptied until the next scheduled collection a fortnight later. However the bins were eventually collected more than a week late – a day after the Echo contacted Borough of Poole.

Kate Langdown, street scene services manager, Borough of Poole, said the bins were ‘unintentionally missed’ by a temporary collection team unfamiliar the area covering annual leave, and apologised to residents ‘for any inconvenience caused’.

A spokesman said missed bins had previously cost the council more than £40,000 a year, and a new policy formalising arrangements was implemented in April.

She added: “Bins that are either not presented by 6am, are not clearly visible and accessible or are presented overweight or contaminated and other bins in the road have been collected will not be returned to, and residents will be asked to manage their waste until their next collection.”
