A POOLE hospice is set to feature on a prime-time television show next week.

Lewis-Manning Hospice will appear on programme The One Show, broadcast in the early evenings on BBC1, because of its work to create lasting legacies for patients.

In the show, to be screened at 7pm on Tuesday, Day Hospice patient Nikki Hastings – a former Daily Echo blogger – will speak about QR Memories, an initiative from funeral and bereavement service Chester Pearce.

The company creates QR codes that can be placed into stone memorials on graves or next to a tree or bench that links to website with text, photos and videos to help others remember.

Former Radio 1 presenter Andy Kershaw visited the hospice in February with a film crew to interview Nikki, who at just 39 years old is terminally ill.

The programme was due to be shown that month, but scheduling conflicts meant it was postponed until April.

Nikki, who was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in October 2008, discussed her own experiences of creating memory books for her children with Kershaw.

Paul Tucker, marketing and communications officer at the hospice, said: “We were delighted that Nikki agreed to share her own inspiring story with The One Show.

“Everyone connected with the hospice is really looking forward to the broadcast and Nikki has been invited to visit the studio on the day, with a member of staff from the hospice, to watch the live show.

“With our bedrooms opening in May, we are entering a very challenging but exciting time for the hospice, so being featured on primetime television is a real bonus.”
