AROUND 1,200 Poole homes suffered a power cut on Tuesday evening after another fault affecting underground cables.

The incident comes just five days after a similar occurrence last Thursday evening, which took out 2,500 homes and businesses across Upton and Lytchett Matravers.

A spokesperson for Southern Electric said they believe the two incidents were caused by the same equipment and are investigating.

The interruption in supply happened just before 10.30pm and affected 1,200 customers in the Upton area, the spokesperson confirmed.

“Everyone was restored by 11.20pm, with half of those affected, restored before that, at 11pm”, he said.

“It does look like it could be the same piece of equipment and we are getting our engineers working on that to make sure we get to the bottom of what’s happening with it.

“We would like to apologise for the interruption.”

Affected streets included Woodpecker Drive, Sandy Lane and Pinewood Road and engineers believe the fault was with the high voltage network.
