A Poole resident – the first female president of the Bournemouth Association of Butchers – has celebrated her 102nd birthday.

Elizabeth Boast of Parkstone care home the Aldbury celebrated with a party on Monday.

Mrs Boast, grew up in Southampton and was, along with her two sisters, known as a great beauty in the area. She married master butcher Richard Andrews in 1942 and they ran a Richard Andrews Butchers in Westbourne for many years.

He taught her and their two children Christine and Richard his butchery skills and all three became master butchers.

Following his death she moved to Majorca and spent 20 years there, where she met and married her second husband William Boast.

The couple moved back the UK and William died shortly after.

For 12 years Elizabeth lived with her daughter, before moving into a Colten care home. Elizabeth’s son Richard and his family now live in Canada.

Her daughter Christine Phillips said: “She’s had a very full life.

“She used to drink of bottle of champagne every morning – she’s drunk enough champagne to float the Queen Mary but it certainly didn’t do her any harm.

“She was a unique woman and very beautiful in her youth.”
