BUCKET and sponge car washing businesses should be allowed to operate in car parks in North Dorset.
That’s the view of district councillor Steve Hitchings, who said he had been approached by residents in Blandford eager to offer a commercial service to the town’s shoppers.
“I have had a couple of people approach me, including one who was recently made redundant from a local business. He wants to set up a car washing business, but our regulations prevent it,” said Cllr Hitchings.
A similar system has run in West Dorset for a number of years, according to district council parking boss Eugene Barnes.
The sale of daily or weekly licences had provided an income for the council and an additional service for shop-pers in Dorchester, he said.
Weekly licences for two car parks in Dorchester cost £45.
