FIREFIGHTERS freed a person who was trapped in a vehicle after a head-on collision in Blandford.

The two-vehicle crash took place on the A354 near the Tesco superstore around 3.25pm on Sunday. A white Land Rover and a silver Skoda Fabia were involved.

The front seat passenger of the Land Rover, a 41-year-old woman from Faringdon in Oxfordshire, was medically trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed.

The driver, a 42-year-old man also from Faringdon, sustained minor injuries. They were taken to Poole Hospital for treatment.

A 53-year-old woman from Winterborne Stickland was travelling in the Skoda. She suffered a broken foot and was taken to Dorset County Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Skoda, a 61-year-old man who is also from Winterborne Stickland, was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.

The A354 was closed between the roundabout at Wimborne Road and the Tesco roundabout to allow officers to examine the scene and for the vehicles to be recovered.

PC Tim Gooding of the traffic unit called for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact police via dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting 10:308.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who was travelling along the road at the relevant time and may have captured the incident on their dash cam," he said.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 3.36pm to reports of a head on collision with one person trapped on the A354 outside the Tesco superstore.

"Two vehicles were involved in the incident.

"The stop message was received at 5.08pm."
