THREE people will appear before a crown court judge next month after a stabbing in north Dorset.

John Johnson, 26, and James Wall, 24, were charged with wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in connection with the incident, which happened in the car park at the Red Lion pub in Gillingham High Street.

The men, who are both of no fixed abode, did not enter pleas during a first appearance at Poole Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, May 16.

They will next appear at Bournemouth Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing in June.

A 17-year-old girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was charged with perverting the course of justice and possession of a bladed article.

Prosecutors allege she disposed of a knife and clothing. She is also due to appear at the crown court next month.

Police were called shortly after 11.15pm on May 13 to reports of a row between a group of people. Gillingham man Karl Newton, 25, sustained a stab wound to his chest and was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

He has since been discharged.

Three men aged 25, 41 and 45 were arrested on suspicion of assault. They have been released under investigation.

Another three men aged 20, 22 and 28 were also arrested, but have been released from the investigation with no further action.
