A ROAD in North Dorset is closed after a diesel spill caused a lorry to shed a load of animal carcasses.

Police were called at 12.01pm on Thursday to reports of a large diesel spill at Spread Eagle Hill in Shaftesbury.

The spill forced the lorry, which was going uphill towards Compton Abbas, to slip backwards.

This caused the lorry's doors to open which resulted in the animal carcasses being strewn over the road.

Local authorities have been called to help clear the road.

The road is closed but no details have been given on exactly where at this stage.

A clear up operation is taking place and police say recovery has been requested.
