A MOTORBIKE display team have given their last performance almost a century after the group was first founded.

VIPs and invited guests visited Blandford Camp for the Royal Signals Motorcycle Display Team's final show.

The 23 members of the team - which is known as the White Helmets - ride classic 750cc Triumph Tigers in full dress uniform as they perform a range of stunts.

Army officials announced earlier this year that 2017 would be the team's last season.

As reported in the Daily Echo, the motorcyclists received a rousing send-off during a farewell ceremony in Blandford town centre. The event marked the team's last public performance.

Thousands of people, including local schoolchildren and civic dignitaries, lined the streets in the sunshine, cheering and waving flags.

The invite-only show was held at the camp in the days afterwards.

Team Sergeant Mike Arnold said the White Helmets had performed around 30 displays this season.

He said: “I have been second-in-command for two years and I have loved every minute of it."
