THE Great Dorset Steam Fair starts today, with a jam-packed schedule of attractions for visitors.

The popular event, held in Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford Forum, will celebrate it's 49th event.

Attracting collectors, steam fanatics, heavy horse fans, campers, music fans and more, the show is expected to attract around 200,000 visitors.

With six different music stages showcasing a range of folk, country and western and rock bands, there is something to suit everyone's musical tastes.

An old steam funfair, heavy haulage, steam tractors and lorries, ploughing engines, wood sawing and mini engines will also be on display.

And until 2018, the event is commemorating the centenary anniversary of the First World War with a popular WW1 tribute display.

The display features an authentic replica Western Front trench system supported by original steam and historic vehicles from the 1914-1918 conflict.

This year it is also hoped that a static display of Royal Flying Corps WW1 aircraft will be featured along with historic cars.

There will also be craft marquees selling traditional country crafts as well rope making, wood carving, fencing, hurdle making and cider producers.

And to keep the hunger at bay, wholesome country tucker including fresh cooked bread, cakes and pastries, homemade sausages and pies and cheese and pickles will be on offer.

Managing Director Martin Oliver, son of event founder Michael Oliver, said: “We are all looking forward to another brilliant show.

"I am always surprised when I hear local people say they have never visited this world-class breathtaking event that’s right on their doorstep, especially when it plays such a huge part in the Dorset economy and in celebrating our history and heritage.

"There is no other event like this anywhere in the world and you won’t regret it."
