POLICE are warning people to be wary of cold callers and report any aggressive behaviour.

It comes after doorstep traders canvassing the Blandford area last Wednesday were reported to police for aggressive and rude behaviour.

A message on the North Dorset Neighbourhood Policing Team's Facebook page said: "Whilst they may lawfully trade by going door to door with the correct licence, a pedlar or hawker's licence, they may not act in an aggressive or anti-social manner.

"It is a criminal offence to do so under The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

"Our advice when dealing with these traders is to always exercise caution and not to open the door if unsure of who might be calling.

"Please use a security chain, never be pressured into buying anything and remember to check ID if unsure who they are.

"Please stay safe and help spread the word."

Police are also reminding householders to pick up a free door card advising any cold callers that the resident does not deal with uninvited traders and to leave the premises.

These are available at the front desk of Blandford Police Station and may be available from other stations in the area.
