A ROWER from the New Forest who completed an epic 3,000 mile voyage across the Atlantic will open the Beaulieu Boatjumble this weekend.

Jude Massey, 18, and his half-brother, Greg Bailey, took 53 days to row unassisted from Gran Canaria to Barbados.

The duo, known as the Ocean Brothers, endured bad weather, equipment failure and injuries during the challenge to raise money for the British Skin Foundation.

Sailing instructor Jude will open the 41st Boatjumble at 10am in the grounds of the National Motor Museum on Sunday.

The show is the largest outdoor sale of maritime items in Europe with stands selling yacht and motorboat spares to clothing, equipment, instruments and charts.

Join Kass Schmitt, seasoned competitor of the Original Single-handed Transatlantic Race (OSTAR), will talk about the essential preparation that helped her survive one of the worst North Atlantic storms in the race’s history.

Throughout the day, the RNLI Central Solent Community Safety team will be holding a lifejacket clinic with free equipment checks and advising sailors on water safety.

Children under 12 will be given free admission to the show.
