COUNCIL tax for New Forest households will increase by £90.06 for 2018/19.

The total amount for an average band D property will be £1,693.78, an increase of 5.62%.

Council tax collected by New Forest District Council (NFDC) is shared with Hampshire County Council, the Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner, parish and town councils, and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority.

Leader of NFDC, Cllr Barry Rickman said: “It is a difficult decision to raise our element of council tax but continuing major reductions in government grant mean that for us to continue to deliver our local council services - including refuse collection, recycling, street cleaning, environmental health, planning, licensing and homelessness prevention - require that we have an increase.

“The district council’s increase in council tax of less than 10p per week for a band D property continues to meet our aim to provide good value for money services that the community want at a fair and reasonable cost.”

Council tax bills will start to be posted to households around March 10 and will include information on how to pay.
