A NATIONAL opticians look set to open a new branch in a New Forest town.
An application has been submitted for 55 Station Road, New Milton, by Specsavers to obtain advertisement consent for two signs at the premises.
The shop is currently unoccupied after previously operating as an estate agents.
A spokesperson for Specsavers said: "Specsavers are always looking at ways of better serving local communities in the UK and we can confirm a new store is scheduled to open in New Milton in spring 2018.
"Planning is still in the very early stages. In the meantime, we continue to provide excellent value and service to customers in other locations, including Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole."
Milton ward councillor Steve Davies said it was positive news for the area.
"I'm delighted to have a national chain coming to the town," he said.
"It shows a great deal of confidence in the town and hopefully it will lead to others joining in with them and coming to the area. Competition is a healthy thing."
