A FOSTER home in the New Forest has launched a new partnership with a Bournemouth charity to support a group of teenage girls.
Blue Sky Ringwood have teamed up with The Shine Project to provide Ringwood-based children with the opportunity to discover their potential, understand and discuss issues of media representation of girls.
The eight one-hour sessions cover areas such as self-esteem, healthy eating, self-respect, and social etiquette and includes practical demonstrations by trained beauty therapists to boost self-confidence.
Blue Sky individual worker Becky said: “The girls have appeared to enjoy all aspects of the course, and have particularly enjoyed spending time with a professional make-up artist.
"It has been lovely to see the girls build their confidence and they have often stated how ‘’beautiful’’ they feel afterwards.”
Shine uses a different activity each week as a technique to get the girls engaged.
While it is teaching them some physical self-care tips, the topics discussed are vital for their mental self-care and wellbeing.
Comments from the girls about the scheme included "it’s amazing, and makes me smile" and "it’s really, really fun and has taught me about healthy eating".
