INSPECTORS have hailed a New Milton care home as ‘outstanding’ for its ‘can do culture.’

A glowing report has been issued by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) about Apple House Ltd’s Summerwood Care Home, which offers accommodation and personal care for up to eight people living with a learning disability, autism or mental health needs.

Inspectors found a ‘positive, can do culture within the home, led by the registered manager's excellent example.’

Deborah Ivanova, deputy chief inspector of adult social care, said: “Summerwood is providing an excellent culture that is open, person-centred, and empowering. Staff are going above and beyond to share information with people living in the service and provide explanations in a way that empowered them to make informed decisions and become more independent.

“The team should be extremely proud of the work they do. I congratulate the staff at Summerwood for achieving our highest rating.”

The report added that people living in the service received person centred, individual support that ‘enabled them to increase their self-esteem.’

The provider joined 'John's Campaign' a national initiative to promote positive relationships between care homes and families.
