TWO brothers set to row the Atlantic continued their mission to raise awareness about skin cancer at the New Forest Show.

Jude Massey and Dr Greg Bailey are planning on making the 3000-mile voyage from Gran Canaria to Barbados early next year, while attempting to raise £100,000 in the process for cancer research.

The half-brothers are busy preparing for the daunting challenge, but are making sure they continue to get their important message across.

Jude's father, Peter Massey, died aged 63 from skin cancer in 2015 after a long battle with the disease.

Talking at the New Forest show at New Park in Brockenhurst, Jude said: "It's amazing to be here and spreading the awareness of skin cancer, which is our main aim through this campaign.

"Seeing our father battle the disease for 16 years is a real motivating factor and today might not be particularly sunny, but any day you're always in danger of getting UV exposure and damaging you skin."

The pair, who call themselves the Ocean Brothers, are both from Lymington and are getting to grips with the 20ft craft which they will use to cross the second largest ocean in the world.

Now with less than six months to go until they set off, 17-year-old Jude said the brothers were getting in as much training as possible and not just for their physical readiness.

"We're in the gym five days a week, building our stamina up and making sure we don't get too muscular because people who are too big suffer the most during the row.

"Also we are getting mentally prepared. Past rowers have said it is 90% mental and 10% physical, so it is really about getting in the mindset to be isolated for six to 11 weeks."

The pair are continuing to raise funds for their challenge, with a current donations already totalling over £5,500.

They hope to reach their £100,000 target on completion of the challenge next year.
