THE friends and family of a man killed in a car crash observed a minute-long silence before playing a football game in his memory on Sunday.

Kevin Peat, a father-of-two, died after the car he was driving collided with a tree and a lamppost in Harewood Avenue, Bournemouth on March 5.

Since his death, kind-hearted well-wishers have raised tens of thousands of pounds to provide for his sons, three-year-old Conor, and Liam, eight months.

The weekend's football match, which took place at Fawcetts Field in New Milton, was also organised with the aim of raising more for the youngsters.

The cash will be held in trust for the boys until they are 18.

Kevin's sister Francesca said more than £22,500 has been donated so far.

"The support we've had has just been amazing," she said.

"It's just been overwhelming.

"Everyone has wanted to get involved and help raise money for the boys.

"It just goes to show how much people thought of Kevin.

"Everyone loved him - it sounds like a cliché but it's true.

"He was well-known and so well loved."

Kevin, a labourer, lived in Hurn Way in Christchurch with fiancee Megan Churchill and their sons.

He had three brothers, Carl, John and Dominic, and sister Francesca. His mum lives in Bournemouth and his dad in Portsmouth.

John, 34, has told the Daily Echo that Kevin had gone out to give two friends a lift home when tragedy struck.

"He was a hard-working family man and was loved by everybody," John said.

Francesca said: "He loved football, which is why we wanted to do something like this.

"He was a massive Liverpool fan.

"We're so pleased that everyone's turned out to remember him."

During the game on Sunday, Kevin's Allstars took on a team representing the Isabel Baker Foundation.

Visitors watching the game also enjoyed a barbecue, face painting and a raffle.
